North Carolina Headlines: Rocky Mount, April 1971

On April 20, 1971, the Supreme Court upheld a decision by Judge James B. McMillan in the case Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education allowing for the substantial busing of students in order to achieve increased integration in schools. That night, The Evening Telegram of Rocky Mount announced “US Court Says School Busing Can Be Used In Desegregation.”
