North Carolina History

From the Archives: Raleigh, NC (1922)

Raleigh, North Carolina, established its first public high school in 1905. The newly-designated Raleigh High School moved into this grand brick structure in 1907. The student body quickly outgrew the facility, and, by 1923, the school board made plans to relocate the students to a more modern building, renaming it Hugh Morson High School, after Raleigh High School’s first principal, in the process. This image was included in Raleigh High School’s 1922 yearbook, The Rattler.
