Throughout its history, the Rosenwald Fund provided financial support and modern educational facilities for numerous struggling black students in North Carolina’s rural communities. Pictured here is the Rosenwald funded Banks Chapel School in Lenoir County, North Carolina, as students gather for the first day of classes on November 1, 1939.
