From the Archives: Durham, NC (1954)

On June 2, 1954, Mrs. Dorothy E. Berry of Durham, North Carolina, wrote this letter to Governor William B. Umstead to encourage him to reconsider his opposition to desegregation, a decree handed down by the United States Supreme Court in a decision known as Brown v. Board of Education.
